Gordon Byron Hudelson
Gordon Byron Hudelson
June 4, 1971 – June 15, 2020
Gordon was born in Torrington, Wyoming to Jim and Cynthia (Cruse) Hudelson on June 4, 1971. He attended Torrington schools, culminating as a proud member of THS Class of 1989. Gordon was a very good student and Class President all 4 years. He was involved in many sports activities throughout his school years, and was especially proud of the State Championship win in football his senior year.
Growing up, Gordon loved attending Wyoming Cowboy football games with his father and grandfather. It was only natural for him to attend the University of Wyoming, where he majored in Architectural Engineering. He was a Resident Assistant at McIntyre Hall and was one of the founders of the Wyoming Chapter of Delta Chi Fraternity.
He began his career working along-side his brother, Sean, at ESC, an Engineering firm in Fort Collins, CO. This is where he learned to be a whiz CAD operator. After several years there, Gordon began his true passion in Architecture when he teamed up with Sean again, working at BVZ Architects in Boulder, CO. Gordon remained on at BVZ for 20 plus years, long after Sean and others had moved on. He continued to partner on projects with the owners up until his death.
Gordon’s entrepreneurial spirit and welcoming personality led to his involvement in several start-up companies and other side businesses but his pride and joy was always Architecture. One of his proudest moments was when his book, “Edgeless Architecture”, featuring photos of his work, was published. He formed strong friendships over the years with the people he worked with from ESC, BVZ and LegalShield.
Gordon loved an adventure. His love for the outdoors brought him so much joy. He loved to camp, hunt, and fish. He truly loved time spent in the mountains, but his “happy place” was at The Narrows where he spent countless hours watching over the valley of Torrington. He had a keen eye for taking beautiful pictures and was always ready to stop and get a shot of a sunset or storm cloud on his way to and from work.
His huge heart and contagious smile will be forever missed. There wasn’t a person he met that he wouldn’t call friend and help in any way. Gordon was “Sugar Bear”, “Teddy Bear” or even “Buttercup” to those who knew and loved him. A few could even call him Gordo, but most who called him a friend, called him “HUD” just like his Dad, Jim. Gordon’s BEST friends came from all phases of life. It wasn’t just High School and College classmates, or Co-workers, or Hunting Buddies, or even his family members. He truly connected with people, a testament to a special man we all will miss.
Gordon was preceded in death by his father, James Hudelson; grandparents, Gordon and Dorothy (Elder) Cruse; Helen (Wilson) Crawford Hudelson and Hugh Hudelson.
He is survived by his mother, Cynthia (Cruse) Hudelson of Torrington, WY; Older brother, Sean and Kim (Baker) Hudelson of Englewood, CO; Little sister, Mariah and Clayton Johns of Scottsbluff, NE; and nephews, Nathan and Quinn Hudelson of Englewood, CO; Colton and Dawson Johns of Scottsbluff, NE.
Cremation has taken place and no Funeral Services will be planned. However, there will be events to honor and celebrate his life at dates to be determined.
