Elvira (Evelyn) Vasquez

With great sadness, the Vasquez family would like to announce that on Monday, April 6, 2020, Elvira (Evelyn) Vasquez passed away peacefully after a heroic battle against cancer at the age of 82.  Evelyn was born on October 17, 1937, to Jose Concepcion Zapata and Maria Marroquin in Brush, Colorado. On April 25, 1955 she was married to Isabel (Chavelo) H. Vasquez. They raised four sons: Samuel, Robert, Joseph and Vince and two daughters: Cynthia and Darlene.

Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.  She thrived on caring for those around her. She truly lived her life to the fullest through simple pleasures, chatting with friends and family, and spending time with everyone she loved.  She enjoyed cooking, baking, gambling, traveling and most of all, shopping. She had an uncanny ability to form deep and personal relationships with all those she encountered. Evelyn was the kindest and most sincere person you would ever meet.  She opened her heart and home to many around her throughout the years.

She is survived and will be lovingly remembered by her husband and best friend of sixty-five years, Chavelo Vasquez and her children: Samuel Vasquez (Debra), Robert Vasquez, Joseph Vasquez (Annette), Vincent Vasquez (Tonette), Cynthia Medina (Luis, deceased) and Darlene Sandoval (Robert); her eleven grandchildren, Luis Medina III (Angelina Starner), Angel Medina (Juanita), Samantha Ramirez (Arthur), Latisha Sandoval (Mark Martinez), Sammy Vasquez (Raquel), Levi Sandoval, Destiny Vasquez, Marcus Sandoval, Anjelina Vasquez, Joseph Vasquez, Isaiah Vasquez; her sixteen great-grandchildren, Luis Medina IV, Emilio Garcia, Matiana Medina, Arthur Ramirez III, Alexus Medina, Lanaya Martinez, Amya Ramirez, Sammy Vasquez III, Evelyn Medina, DiMarko Martinez, Noah Vasquez, Emma Vasquez, Emiliano Medina, Francisco Medina, Deluviña  Medina, Brooklynn Medina; and her great-great-grandchild, Aria McFall. Evelyn was also survived by her sisters, Isabel (Chavela) Cordova, Esther Marquez, and was preceded in death by her siblings Lupe Trujillo, Connie Martinez, Josefina Hernandez, and Jose Zapata Jr.

Evelyn was a fighter.  She survived cancer three times.  No matter how sick she was, she never lost determination. She was the epitome of strength, resilience, perseverance; but above all, she was loved.  She will forever be in our hearts. Our lives will truly never be the same without her. We will miss her sweet laughter, beautiful spirit and her out-of-this-world smile.

The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation Elevation Hospice along with their wonderful staff for their professionalism, dedication and empathy in the care of our mother and grandmother.

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Evelyn’s life.  All details will be determined at a later date.
