Dan Chomyn

Dan Chomyn died peacefully in his home surrounded by family, on February 13, 2023, after a brief illness.

Daniel Thomas Chomyn was born on May 24, 1952 in Sault Ste Marie, MI to Marge J (Koldan) and Walter J Chomyn. Dan, his older brother and parents relocated to South Bend, IN where he grew up with an additional 4 siblings.  Dan was involved in sports and Boy Scouts, learning outdoor skills that lasted a lifetime. He loved fishing and camping, whether it was in the backyard or on family camping trips. He lettered in wrestling at John Adams High School. Dan continued his education at IU-Bloomington and had several successful business ventures while earning his degree in the same subject. He met Janet Beer there and they settled in Colorado for its beauty and abundant hiking, camping, fishing and skiing opportunities. They married in 1985. When the light of Dan’s life, Nicole, was born she joined in her parents adventures. Dan attended all of Nicky’s softball and gymnastics competitions. He was what we now call a “Girl Dad”. While the marriage did not last,  Dan remained close to the large Beer family.  Dan limited his sales career and turned his passion for poker into a full-time endeavor. He played locally and nationally. He traveled one last time to Las Vegas, in December, and instead of playing poker he cheered IU basketball, saw the city lights and attended shows with his brother, Tom, and family.  It was his favorite trip!

Dan was predeceased by his father, Walter, his nephew, Ryan Chomyn,  his in-laws, Phil and Millie Beer, and his beloved dogs, Cleo I, Cleo II, and Cleo III. Surviving him are his daughter, Nicole/Josh Taggart, Nicole’s mother, Janet, and Cleo IV. Also surviving are his mother, Marge, and siblings Tim/Elaine, Ann Shepherd, Joe, Tom/Jeannine, Patrick/Nancy and a host of nieces and nephews and their children.

The family would like to thank Dr LIsabeth Hall and Tru Community Hospice  for their compassionate care.

A memorial gathering will take place Sunday, February 19, 2023 from 1pm to 3pm at 7652 N 49th St, Longmont, CO. Friends are welcome to send any photos of Dan to Chomyn.nicole@gmail.com or text to 303-910-3540.
