Kathleen Marie Michaud

Kathleen Marie Michaud, 71, Denver, CO, peacefully passed from this world on Monday, May 16, 2022, at Villa Manor Care Center in Lakewood. She was born on April 23, 1951 in Denver, CO to Eugene J. and Therese M. (Gilsdorf) Michaud. She was a life-long learner who loved adventure, helping others and remained a faithful disciple in her faith journey. She loved her family and friends and all the nieces and nephews in her life. From an early age, she took great pride exploring and using her talents, helping and teaching those in her family and others beyond about what was important in life. Involvement in 4H and service at Trinity Missionaries with the people in the Appalachian Mountains in Harlan, Kentucky is evidence of Kate’s values and views toward others. Kindness, generosity, friendliness and helpfulness are a few words that help characterize who Kate was and what she aspired to live out. Being the oldest daughter in the family, she loved and helped others learn important values. Learning and education was important to Kate. She graduated from St. Francis De Sales High School in 1969 and earned her Bachelor of Art’s degree from Metro State University (1975), received her Masters of Arts (Psychology) from Regis University (1997) and she was working on her PhD through Capella University.

Her professional work as a counselor and therapist took focus in social services where she was involved in providing help and other supports which positively impacted the lives of many people with varying disabilities and challenges. Kate loved others and desired the best path for each life she encountered.

Kate’s career was full and diverse and included service as a volunteer fire fighter and eight years of professional work on the Westminster police force in traffic control as an accident investigator. Kate’s contributions also included ministries in the church where she shared her faith in Christ by serving and guiding services for the elderly as well as helping the youth discover the Lord in their lives through youth ministry programs.

Kate desired connection to the world from an early age and had friends from different parts of the world. She loved to venture into the outdoors both on foot, hiking and backpacking and on wheels. The memory book is full of adventures across the U.S.A traveling with siblings and friends. Kate once ventured into Canada and the northwest on motorcycles with a couple of her brothers. Her zest for life played out in other ways as well. Kate was musical and loved to play the guitar and other stringed instruments which were complimented by her beautiful voice. While in Santa Fe, NM, Kate sang with the Santa Fe Opera Company in The 3 Penny Opera. At times, when the family would gather, it was common for all to join in singing and harmonizing to favorite songs like ‘Edelweiss’ and the ‘Violins play along’. Kate’s skills and contributions didn’t end there. She was an excellent quilter and seamstress and her beautiful works blessed her family and friends.

Kate very much loved her family and longed for continued connections with each. Over the course of her life, she invested time and love. Kate continued to love those around her even when life presented its challenges. She was loved by her family and friends and will be dearly missed.
