Scott Alan Jaquith
Scott Alan Jaquith passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2022, in Denver Colorado at the age of 66, a life-long resident of Commerce City, Colorado.
Scott was born the second child of Philip and Doyne Jaquith on March 28, 1956 at St. Joseph’s hospital in Denver, Colorado. He was a sweet yet mischievous child with an intelligent wit and a keen sense of humor. A gentle giant, Scott towered over most of us at 6 feet 8 inches in height. He was recruited for his high school basketball team but he declined in favor of water polo. With a wing span of over seven feet, he was a formidable goalie. During this time, he trained with his father in construction. After graduating from Adams City High School in 1974, Scott entered the Navy. He was assigned to submarines and he developed medical difficulties from ducking under the 6 foot 3 inched high doors after serving for three years.
Scott lived in Copaigue, New York after leaving the Navy to work in the family pizza business of one of his Navy buddies. He loved going into New York City to visit museums, listen to music, and wander the city in search of adventure, and he often visited friends and his father’s family throughout New England.
Scott returned to Commerce City in the early 1980s and resumed working with his father in the construction trade. He became a master craftsman in linoleum, tile and Formica work. In 2000, Scott was elected as a Councilman to the Commerce City Council and served for eight years as a proponent of lower taxes, good constituent services, and an effective clean-up of the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. He loved the deep connections that he found in Commerce City and he was committed to community in everything that he did. He helped neighbors, assisted friends in their plans and projects, and would lend a hand to anyone in need. He had a kind word for everyone and shared his sense of humor freely.
In 2004 he joined the Deck Super Store, designing decks and selling composite decking materials where he worked through the end of his life. His co-workers at the Deck Super Store became his second family.
Scott was a good friend to many people, always kind and ready to share a laugh. He was generous with his time and assisted many friends and family with their home construction projects. From a young age, Scott collected rocks wherever he went – he loved the feel of them and admired the beauty of nature through the stones he found. Scott was delighted to see the solar eclipse last year and was looking forward to the next one (2 within seven years!). He enjoyed playing cards and games with friends and family. Though his friendships and acquaintances spanned a wide spectrum, his closest were childhood friends.
Scott is survived by his sister, Sandra Jaquith of Lafayette, Colorado; his brother Steven Jaquith and sister-in-law, Barbara Jaquith, of Aurora, Colorado; and two nieces and a nephew, Sarah Jaquith of Silverthorne, Colorado, Lindsay Jaquith of Macedonia, Ohio, and Misha Jaquith of Aurora, Colorado. In loving memory, a service with be held for Scott Jaquith on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Goode Centennial United Methodist Church at 6381 Olive St., Commerce City, Colorado.
