Richard Donald Torpy
Richard Donald Torpy passed away on Monday, April 12, 2021 in Aurora, Colorado.
Richard was born on June 14, 1943 in Denver to Alvin and Lois (Bamsey) Torpy. He graduated from Denver South High School and attended the University of Colorado. He went on to earn a Law Degree at the University of Denver, and practiced law in the Denver area.
Richard will be remembered for his sense of humor and his love of racing cars. He served on the board of the Sports Car Club of America and was active for many years in the Porsche Club. He raced several different cars over the years and was a regular spectator at Indy Car Races. He enjoyed traveling and especially loved Paris and Aspen. He also loved road trips in his Porsche and always had a great story to tell when he returned home. He learned to like horses because his daughters liked horses and he enjoyed watching them ride.
Richard is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Torpy of Elizabeth, CO and Megan Hampton of Cheyenne, WY; beloved grandson Blake Hampton; sister Carolyn (Andy) Anderson of California and brothers Jerry (Linn) of Dallas and Ronald (Virginia) of Aurora. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Patricia and his brother Norman.
A memorial and celebration is tentatively planned for the weekend of May 29-30 at the SCCA event in Pueblo, Colorado. Richard will forever be in our hearts and will be dearly missed.
