Patricia Ann Fontenot

Patricia Ann Fontenot, 82, a resident of Denver, Colorado went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 6, 2021.

Patricia was born in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of the late Charles M. and Catharine (Schmitt) Blackman. 

Pat was educated at St. Mary’s in Iowa City, IA, continuing her adult education to earn careers in cosmetology, as a pastry chef, a security guard, an advocate in domestic violence cases; even advancing her education while in Tehran, Iran working for the U.S. Embassy. Pat worked in the health industry where she eventually became a Medical Screening Auditor for Blue Cross Blue Shield. Over the years Pat gave generously of her time to her church and to local political and community organizations. Pat was proud to be a member of the Citizen’s Academy of the Denver Police Department, tirelessly she managed the food pantry at Deliverance Tabernacle, she gave many years of support and donations to the Navajo Nation in New Mexico, and following her political beliefs she found the time to run for public office.

An avid sports fan, Pat had a particular passion for basketball. She enjoyed reading, dancing, discussing politics, and loved the company of family and friends; she especially delighted in children.  

Surviving is her son, Joel Fontenot of Phoenix, AZ and formerly of Boulder and Denver, CO; two grandsons, one great-granddaughter, two great-grandsons; four sisters, Mary Burns of Edwards, CO, Pauline Aytes of Littleton, CO, Elizabeth Brownlow of Denver, CO, and Geralynn Yeager of Longmont, CO; two brothers, Michael Blackman of Denver, CO, and Timothy Blackman of Longmont, CO. Patricia was preceded in death by her son, Samuel Fontenot and brother, James Blackman.

A service in Pat’s honor will be held for family and friends at the Madonna Mausoleum at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 12801 W 44th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033 on Thursday, April 22nd at 1 o’clock pm.
