Carol Ann “Casey” Stengel was born November 10, 1942 in St. Louis, Missouri, the only daughter of Dorothy (nee Blake) and Arthur A. Stengel and sister to Arthur T. Stengel (Tom).  Family and friends affectionately called her “Casey”, a nickname after the Hall of Fame baseball manager, Casey Stengel, purportedly a distant cousin.

Carol attended Lutheran High School Central in St. Louis and Concordia Lutheran Teacher’s College in River Forest, Illinois.  For seven years she was an elementary school teacher until she pursued an M.A. in Journalism from the University of Colorado, Boulder.  Carol worked as a freelance writer and later a press agent for a local Colorado Congressman.  Later she obtained her real estate license and ran her own business until her retirement.

Carol met the love of her life, Carol Pesell, in the eighth grade.  The couple loved and supported each other for 62 years and married in a civil ceremony in 2014.  In 1970, both Carols moved to Morrison, Colorado where they built the home of their dreams just north of the Red Rocks. Together they enjoyed and shared the love of hiking, climbing 14ers, camping, snow skiing, whitewater rafting, gardening, and the caring for dogs and cats.  Padre Island was their happy place during the winters, enjoying the beaches, sailing and flying kites.  Traveling and enjoying other cultures was a favorite activity, especially in their bright green Volkswagen camper van, nicknamed “Mamie”, last known location of this travel machine….The Netherlands.

Carol passed away on December 16, 2020, five days after her loving spouse passed.  She is survived by special friends, Todd Misk and John Reid; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Stengel and nephew, Bradley T. Stengel and his wife, Lori Lynn and close circle of women friends.  Our friend, sister and aunt will be remembered as a kind, caring, fun and loving soul.

By request there will be no service.  Donations in Carol’s name may be given to Doctors without Borders, Nature Conservancy and Dumb Friends League Animal Shelter.
