Stan Lumb
Stan Lumb passed away on October 30, 2021 at the age of 75.
He was a proud marine, published poet, businessman, caring father, and craftsman.
He is survived by his brother Alan, daughter Hilary Papuchis, sons John Lumb and Judson Wright, and two grandsons Gary and Alexander Papuchis.
Stan was also an alcoholic and with help from friends at AA stopped drinking and didn’t drink for the rest of his life. Stan graduated from Brentwood High School and had some higher education before he joined the marines. He had two tours in Viet Nam, then married his high school girlfriend and they had his son Judson.
He worked in Kansas City where he had a brief marriage with his second wife. Next job in insurance was in Chicago where he met his third wife. They moved to Maryland where Hilary and John were born. His brother and wife lived in Virginia and they got together on many occasions. His work with the NEA to give teachers good insurance policies was one of his best accomplishments.
In Maryland he had a brain tumor and a very successful operation at Johns Hopkins. Stan always loved poetry and published a book with his poetry. His father Mark, an educator, was very proud of his poetry. For retirement Stan chose small towns in eastern Colorado. It was there Stan got a lathe and perfected the making of wooden bowls and rolling pins. He enjoyed taking his bowls and rolling pins to craft fairs and often sold them all.
Through the years his brother, children and grandchildren received many crafts he made and will always cherish. Prior to his death, he bought a kiln and began developing skills at ceramics.
He was loved and will be missed.
