Judy Wynne Harper would like you to know that her work on Earth is done. There wasn’t a mission she didn’t complete. Being a Mother of 4, a Sister to 9, and a Grandmother to 9, she achieved more than most. Excelling as a Cytologist, leading the research on HPV, becoming a massage therapist, teaching, building and above all writing. As an Editor at the Fincastle Herald, Judy developed her skills and passion as a writer. On top of mastering multiple careers, Judy found time for her favorite hobbies; gardening, canning, cooking, baking, bee-keeping, photography, reading scientific articles and novels alike, growing hemp to scientific standards, welcoming guests with open arms into her home and raising her grandchildren. There wasn’t a task undone, a peach not picked, a slide not screened.
Judy’s impact was profound. Everyone that knew Judy will have bits and pieces of her that will continue to live on in ourselves and our children. If there were 7 lessons Judy left us with, she would say; sit up straight, check your grammar, work hard, be humble, be graceful, find the extraordinary moments in the ordinary moments, and love unconditionally.
We will remember her smile and her warmth, her love for life, family and friends, but also students and colleagues many whom over time became great friends. She worked hard her entire life, even up until the end. Judy’s determination was undeniable. Judy always said she wanted to go on a Monday. Judy passed peacefully in her sleep on Monday, February 17, 2020. The Pearly Gates will be getting a fresh polish.
