ANNE CHRISTINE BECK (SEBECKIS/RUTH ANNE NEGUS)
Anne was born in Julesburg, Colorado on March 15, 1945 to Willits and Norma Negus.
She grew up in Julesburg, Burlington, and Monument, Colorado, while her parents followed their educational careers. Anne graduated from Lewis-Palmer High School in 1963.
Anne began college with one year at Colorado Women's College, then transferred and earned
her BA from Colorado College (1967) with Dean's List Honors. She earned an MSW from the University of Wisconsin, Madison (1969). While living in Wisconsin, she met her husband, Laurence Sebeckis. They were married from 1969 - 1974. Anne worked at Mendota Mental Health Institute as a social worker in Adult Psych and Alcoholism Treatment.
After the divorce, Anne returned to Colorado and worked in various hospitals as a social worker, focusing on alcoholism treatment and grief counseling. In 1978, Anne gave birth to her son, Jeffrey Willits Sebeckis. She continued her passion for helping those affected by alcoholism and became Director at Stepping Stone Halfway House for women.
After many years of dedicated social work, Anne changed careers and began working at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. She had several roles there, working as the Children's Workshop Assistant and Coordinator, Paleontology Certification Coordinator. She volunteered for many special exhibits (Including Ramses II), Halloween programs, and the Egyptian Study Society. Her son joined her in many of these activities. Anne loved learning and trying new things. She played the piano and flute and sang in many church choirs. She was an accomplished belly dance. She relished performing. She traveled to Egypt and toured the pyramids. She, learned German, French, and Greek. She was an amazing cook and a lover of animals (especially cats). She enjoyed live music in all forms, including musical theater. She was an avid Broncos and Rockies fan. But most of all, she loved her son and always did her best to make sure he thrived. She loved to laugh and have fun. Everyone who knew her enjoyed her infectious spirit. Sadly, Anne was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in 2015 and eventually could no longer be cared for at home. Though many aspects of her life changed, she continued to influence the people around her and was well cared for, respected, and loved until her final exit on October 20, 2020. Anne leaves her son, Jeff Sebeckis of Denver, as well as many friends.
