BRANDON VANCE SIMMONS

Brandon Vance Simmons, age 40, of Denver, Colorado, passed away on July 26, 2022.

Born in Dallas, Texas on February 2, 1982, Brandon grew up as part of an Air Force family. He attended schools in Alabama, Nebraska, and Colorado. He loved golfing and fishing and enjoyed competing both in soccer and swimming. During summer visits to Minnesota, he also relished canoeing and experiencing as many outdoor activities as he could. His greatest joy, however, was singing. He began singing with his mother in the church choir, then became a member of Nebraska’s Children’s Choir as well as Colorado’s Children Chorale. He attended Denver School of the Arts as a vocal music major. Brandon had a booming bass voice that would fill the largest concert halls without a microphone, his director would say. Throughout his life, this love for music continued through attending live concerts of many genres, including the Global Dance Festival at Red Rocks. One of his favorite events was seeing Paul Simon and Bob Dylan with his mom on one of those special Minnesota summer trips.

Brandon’s second love was cooking. He would say that breakfast was his favorite, and preparing sushi became a special interest. His skill and attention to detail presented opportunities for Brandon to work at Hapa and Wolfgang Pucks in Denver.

Brandon was a gentle soul and a kind man. He volunteered for various charities including Angels Unaware, Project Angel Heart and various animal Shelters. He had a passion for helping people. If he thought someone was mistreated or hurt in any way, he would step in and do his best to help or protect them. If it was rainy or snowing, he would offer the homeless something to eat and a place to sleep in his apartment. His Dad graciously funded the many cups of coffee and cigarettes that Brandon gave out daily to those less fortunate.

Brandon taught us the challenges of living with schizophrenia. Within his struggles, he continued to strive for balance and health, gradually overcoming some of the personal obstacles his illness presented.

Brandon was proceeded in death by his grandparents Nelda and BJ Simmons, Lorraine, and Ferdinand Pollak. He was also met at heavens gates by his uncle Kevin Simmons, cousins Nickolas Pollak, Jonathan Dalager, Ryon Simmons, and Nevaeh Young. He is survived by his mother Brenda Simmons, Aurora, Colorado, his father, Jerry Simmons, Aurora, Colorado, his brother Chris, Aurora Colorado, and his sister Jessica, Palm Bay, Florida.

If Brandon touched your life, we invite you to join us for a Remembrance Service at 11am on September 11, 2022. The ceremony will be held at the Montclair Civic Center, 6820 E 12th Ave Denver, CO 80220.

Our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have prayed with us over the years, sharing in Brandon’s life journey. Remember Brandon with a hearty breakfast or sushi, a coffee, or a song. When you see a young adult, disheveled or confused, perhaps they have a mental health issue. Offer a helping hand, keeping in mind that there is a family out there somewhere who loves them. They just might be so disconnected, or unassisted with medical care that they cannot find their way. May God bless you all.
