Thomas Wolverton Gaul of Thornton, CO passed away on February 7th, 2021 at the age of 63 of complications from his hard-fought battle with cancer. Even as his illness progressed over the last two years, Tom refused to let it define him. A true master of elevator small-talk and conversation ice-breakers, Tom’s charisma made him adored by grocery store clerks, health care attendants and colleagues in a way that one would typically expect from close family members. He was known by the staff and patients at his weekly cancer center visits as a bright force of kindness, humor and optimism.

Tom brought his likeability to bear in his successful career as a salesman in the tech and healthcare industries. As the architect of several sales and marketing strategies, he solved business problems through skillful communication for dozens of companies including Kingston, Polyvision, Dental Services Group and most recently, his son’s startup.

Speaking of which, if you spent more than five minutes with Tom, he likely would have talked your ear off about his sons, Tyler (an entrepreneur in Los Angeles, CA) and Derek (a pharmacist in Savannah, GA). The three of them made sure to kick a soccer ball around the park and go mini-golfing as often as possible in their time together.

Tom was an avid soccer player, coach and fan over the years, including a stint as a referee when he took his involvement with the sport in a new direction by certifying with his two sons, providing their first jobs. He was an avid Colorado Rapids fan, attending games from the beginning and his own soccer team, the Storm, was a source of fun, fitness and the occasional injury over the last decade.

In his spare time, Tom enjoyed cultivating roses, taking landscape photographs, and traveling with his girlfriend, Snejana––including recently to Spain, Italy and Bulgaria.

Originally from Berwyn, PA, Tom is survived by his two sons (fmr spouse Donna), Tyler (34) and Derek (33, wife Rebecca): his siblings––including his twin, Will Gaul–– Lawrence, Richard, George, Rebecca and his mother Ann Gaul; and former spouse Melodie Gaul. Tom’s first grandchild is due from Derek and Rebecca on March 29.

In lieu of flowers or other gifts, Tom’s legacy will be celebrated through a memorial scholarship fund to sponsor youth soccer referee training and certification. A virtual service will be held in the coming months.
