Robert Charles Hinsey Jr. (Bob), a beloved son, brother, uncle, co-worker and friend, passed away suddenly on July 14, 2020 in Denver, Colorado.  He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Sr. and Phyllis (O’Brien) Hinsey.

Bob was born May 3, 1961 in Colorado Springs where he attended Cheyenne Mountain High School (1979 graduate) and then earned an Associates Degree in Arts and Sciences at University of Southern Colorado in Pueblo.  He began a career in roofing by following hail storms around the south and picking up insurance work where he could.  Thirty years ago, Bob helped his college friend, Roy Thomas, start his company Mountain States Roofing.  For the past twenty-two years, Bob worked as the Sales Manager but also was known to be a Project Manager and climb up on the roofs for actual work!  Bob loved working with people and always went the extra mile to ensure every customer was very happy.  Bob was well known and respected in the industry.

In our large family of 13 kids, Bob was number 8; pretty smack in the middle.  As a younger child, Bob was known to be a “trickster” - jumping out from behind doors to scare you or hiding your Halloween candy for ransom. One legendary story in our family was when Bob went to Colorado Springs to go to the dog track.  He hadn’t checked in with mom for a little while and it just so happened she went to the dog track that day too.  Of course she spotted him, chased him down and gave Bob “the” lecture about checking in at home.  We don’t think it motivated him to call mom any more frequently!  As an adult, Bob kept his sense of humor and gave generously.  He would often leave a family dinner at a restaurant early and pay the bill for all of us - this was not cheap given our clan!  Bob also bought dad his first big screen TV  and he readily volunteered and was tested to donate stem cells for a brother fighting cancer.  Bob enjoyed getting away and a recent trip to Key West was a highlight.  He loved to play poker and had frequent trips to Vegas to try his luck.  We hope he feels lucky in heaven!

As our first of the thirteen children to pass, we will all miss Bob greatly.  He is survived by his twelve brothers and sisters:  Rebecca Turner, Bill (Michele) Hinsey, Margaret (Gary) Campbell, Harry (Donna) Hinsey, Mary (Steve) Buchberger, Phyllis (Eric) Freyer,  Betty (Joe ) Winget, John Hinsey, Jim (Sharon) Hinsey, Nancy (Courtney) Berg, David (Genevieve) Hinsey, Mark (Jody) Hinsey.  In total Bob has 24 nieces and nephews and 24 great-nieces and nephews - what a crew!  Bob considered his friend, Roy, a brother and especially enjoyed doting on Roy’s kids: Raiden (he will miss you at home), Russell, and August.  They will lovingly care for Louie, Bob’s beloved Maltese.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be planned for and announced at a future date.
